The NTAILS centre is based at the Telford Innovation campus of the University of Wolverhampton.

The centre showcases technologies such as:

The centre's main objective is to facilitate collaboration between the University and West Midlands businesses (subject to eligibility) such as tourism and manufacturing looking to adopt new technologies.  This can include free business assistance in the adoption of these technologies, equipment loan, graduate placements, free to attend technology seminars and links to our academic research.

Visitors to the centre will have the opportunity to use the technology and be guided on its application to their business.

Companies must be based in the West Midlands and be registered with HM Revenue & Customs for business tax and can include:

  • start-ups of all sizes whether or not VAT registered
  • self-employed & sole traders
  • partnerships / limited liability partnerships
  • companies (private or public limited companies: private unlimited companies)
  • independent spin-outs from established businesses, Universities and other research and development organisations
  • not for profit companies, co-operatives, community / farm / social enterprises
  • new to the region branches of business which remain established elsewhere in the UK
  • foreign direct investment (FDI) bringing new enterprises to the region, both first time investment and subsequent expansion

Eligibility is also subject to previous State Aid receipt and business sectorial restrictions.

Placements Available

The NTAILS project is providing opportunities for recently qualified graduates, the prospect of assisting West Midlands businesses in the development of suitable automatic identification/sensor based solutions. Our successful client based in Telford is now looking for a Graduate Software Developer. The contract will be paid and will be for a period of 3 months. The graduate placements involve working with local companies on a small scale project and areas of engagement can include:

  • Software Development
  • Software Analysis
  • Software Testing

Incorporated into the assist is an opportunity for businesses to borrow specialist equipment to evaluate at their own premises.

Examples of equipment include:

  • UHF (Ultra High Frequency) Readers (such as Impinj) + tags
  • HF (High Frequency) Readers (such as Mifare) + tags
  • Barcode Readers
  • Sensors for temperature, humidity and moisture

The purpose of an assist is to help a company to understand how new technologies can be adopted by their business.

An assist is delivered through a technology consultant who can work with you at our centre, or at your business premises to recommend suitable solutions.

Assists typically involve at least two days with our consultant free of charge, including a written report of the recommendations proposed.

To improve access to high quality local ICT expertise and suppliers, the NTAILS project is providing a directory of companies that are involved in the supply and/or distribution of technology relating to RFID and sensor technologies.

Customers wishing to adopt RFID technologies can easily browse the directory to search for potential suppliers.
